So I've done some playing with OFX DirectConnect myself. I have it working right now, grabbing all my transactions and balances from my checking, money market, and credit card accounts. I've been able to avoid any charges. Basically it takes some troubleshooting and, for me, some tcpdumps with quicken. Check out this http://www.jongsma.org/gc/
I have just modified ofx.py for my credit card, and ofx-ba.py for my bank accounts. Once it works it just grabs the ofx file - which I just parsed using plain old perl to get the info I wanted. Honestly it looks like the banks don't properly use the format anyway. Anyhow, just wanted to let you know that it is possible.
