The Slip Does Not Disappoint
The newest album from Nine Inch Nails, “The Slip”, is a fresh downward spiral into the musical mind of Trent Reznor. This album continues a great new trend since Trent has freed himself from the clutches of corporate record companies.
Oh and did I mention that the album is offered free from the NIN website?
Ghosts I-IV: New 36 Track Nine Inch Nails Album!
I’m totally stoked that NIN has another album out called Ghosts I-IV. Don’t worry. Even though it has 36 (count ‘em!), it’s only five bucks available from nin.com or amazon. I haven’t actually listened to it yet but apparently Trent is branching out since he is free from evil record companies. From what I’ve read this one is an instrumental. It doesn’t really matter to me, I’ve been a fan since one of his first releases. Pretty Hate Machine (1989) is still one of my all time favorite albums and will always have special meaning to me.
Pandora.com: Best Way to Find Music You Like
During those long sessions of coding music plays a crucial role in keeping the momentum going for me. With all that music I listen to I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting tunes.
I recently found a website called Pandora Radio that lets you find some great music based on an artist or song that you already like. The algorithms that they use must be pretty good because I’ve found a ton of new music that I love from some artists that I’ve never heard of before. The website consists of an easy to use unobtrusive interface that lets you:
- give the current song a thumbs up or a thumbs down
- bookmark the artist or song
- buy the song from iTunes or Amazon
for each successive song that’s played. There’s no desktop client to install or subscription fee. Just register for free and start listening. I invite you to check out Pandora and I’d also be interested to hear what other sites people use to find new and interesting music.
Rabbit in the Moon: Decade
I don’t generally write about music but I think this will be the first of more mini reviews to come. I’ve listened to techno music pretty much since I moved to Orlando. At that time (mid 1990’s), Orlando had a vibrant night life with great clubs and great techno music. Rabbit in the Moon reminds me of those times and the newest album Decade is a great representation of their work. Track #6 Dubassex (Wish You Were Here) is my favorite. If you like techno music or even if you don’t and like to dabble, Decade is a great album and I highly recommend it.
