In my research to find an interesting niche market for my next project, I began reading about Modernist, avant-gard, and Futurist movements. What I read pertained mostly to music, architecture and art. As I thought about it in the context of the present time these movements seem to have a place in the technology evolution. Current trends reject a lot of traditional themes and constantly evolve into “mashups” and “remixes”.

I really don’t have a point here other than it’s sometimes interesting to think about movements or philosophies of the past and give them a modern context.

Is what Martin Fowler has to say regarding Ruby. Personally, I’ve had Ruby on my “cool languages to check out” list for some time but haven’t set aside that good half a day to investigate Ruby seriously. Now that Mr. Fowler has given his tentative thumbs up the priority for checking out Ruby is going up.
